Gild which stands for Groupware enabled Integrated Learning Development is a simple programming environment that is designed for students and for the classroom.
Teaching students programming is a challenging task. Unfortunately, there are few tools that provide for teaching and learning programming. That is where GILD comes in, their goal is to fill in this lack of integrated learning and development plug-in for Eclipse.
Some of its features includes:- Java editor with syntax highlighting, auto-indentation, and bracket matching.

- Tasks view that displays compilation errors and warnings
- Simple Resource Navigator
- Backup and load corsework and materials using the Export/Import Archived Project feature
- Step-by-step documentation
- Allows users to open files for editing without the need to create a new project
- Drag-and-drop of Java source files from the desktop
- Automatically synchronizes HTML corse notes and lecture slides with source-code content
- Automatically opens Java source files in the Gild Java editor, using HTML links in the lecture slides
- Mark Java source code using a standard marking scheme. Marks can be saved as HTML documents or as XML markup
