SWT Sightings - Volume 1

If you are an avid Java developer then you are already familiar with "Swing Sightings". That is Sun's ongoing collection of Java applications using the Swing GUI framework. However in recent months we have been finding a lot of interesting applications writen using the Standard Widget Toolkit (i.e. SWT) framework. So with these as motivation, here's the first issue of "SWT Sightings".

  • Azureus - Azureus is a BitTorrent client which provides a bittorrent protocol implementation.

Azureus offers multiple torrent downloads, queuing/priority systems (on torrents and files), start/stop seeding options, an embedded tracker and instant access to information about your torrents.

It supports 31 different languages. Won the September 2004 Sourceforge Project of the Month.
  • RSSOwl - RSSOwl is an RSS RSS ("Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary") aggregator. RSSOwl lets you gather, organize, update, and store information from any compliant source in a convenient, easy to use interface, save selected information in various formats for offline viewing and sharing, and much more. It's easy to configure, available in many different languages. Awarded the January 2005 Sourceforge Project of the Month.
  • Panoptes - Panoptes is a graphical JMX Management Consol. Panoptes is designed to work with any JMX Server such as JBoss or Tomcat or any J2EE server. Panoptes uses Jelly to provide customized rich user interfaces for MBeans.
  • Sancho - Sancho is a gui that is designed to connect to any p2p. Power users that use p2p applications usually choose one that has core/gui separation. Sancho provides an easy to use, powerful, and configurable gui, currently supports the protocol of the popular mldonkey core.
  • Hetman - Hetman is a dual-panel file manager that you can use to work with two different folders at the same time and perform operations with files and folders quickly and efficiently. In addition to the regular file management operations, it includes a built-in archiver, editor, viewer, FTP-client
  • Haystack - Haystack is a tool designed to let individuals manage all their information in ways that make the most sense to them. By removing arbitrary barriers created by applications that handle only certain information "types" and that record only a fixed set of relationships defined by the developer, we aim to let users define whichever arrangements of, connections between, and views of information they find most effective. Such personalization of information management will dramatically improve everyone's ability to find what they need when they need it.
  • Seruku Toolbar A desktop search application.

If you know of any other SWT based application, please let us know.

Chord Chart Wizard is a freeware program that generates all the different kinds of documents that worship leaders/musicians create like: chord charts (chords and lyrics), overheads, powerpoint, song sheets (handouts), and set lists. It makes creating these documents really easy and saves tons of time. It can also tranpose songs. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X (like a real mac app).

I did everything first in Swing and later decided to switch to SWT because it felt so much better.
